SWC Awarded New Grants to Support the Community

Spokane, WA – The Spokane Workforce Council (SWC) has been awarded two grants from Spokane County United Way that will support two of our centers, the Next Generation Zone and the Spokane Resource Center. The Next Generation Zone provides innovative career and education services to young adults ages 16-24, while the Spokane Resource Center provides a wide array of wraparound social services to low-moderate income individuals and families.

The $30,000 grant will be divided between each of the one-stop centers to connect its customers to the appropriate education and skills training that lead to family-sustaining wages. The grant will also provide general operating support to ensure the highest quality of service is provided to customers.

We appreciate the support of Spokane County United Way as a critical co-investor in our local workforce system. This funding provides us the flexibility needed to blend federal and private support to stretch our dollars and serve a broader range of individuals throughout our area. We value our ongoing partnership with SCUW and are grateful for this new award to help us better meet our community’s needs.

Additionally, the Next Generation Zone was nominated by a generous Starbucks Partner (employee) to receive a $1,000 grant as a part of their Starbucks Foundation and Neighborhood Grants program. Identified by the Starbucks Partner as important work delivered to the community, the Next Generation is excited to use the award to provide flexible support for program activities.

Thank you to Starbucks for this generous gift that will go directly to supporting young adults in our community. To the Partner who nominated us, we are grateful you see our value in the Spokane community and we look forward to continuing to work together.
